Default Asus

How would you rate this brand?

I've heard great, great things about Asus. How they've worked, etc.

Love them
Great motherboards and video cards, I have never tried their laptops though.

I've had 2 Asus motherboards, one is 5 years old and its still going strong without any issues

I've always used ASUS motherboards and never had a problem . I like how easy it is to upgrade the BIOS on their boards compared to other brands.

Default ASRock is fine too...

I have used one ASUS board in my previous computer and it worked well--no problems at all. Decided to go ASRock with my new build because I didn't want to upgrade my AGP card right away, an the ASRock Dual939 board was the only one I could find that had both AGP and PCI-E x16 slots. It works great and I like it. Aside from the CPU voltage going only to 1.4 v for overclocking, it overclocks fairly stably. Also it has a "CPU upgrade slot" for AMD cpu upgrades that will make use of the socket after AM2 with an adapter you can get from either ASUS or AMD. No idea if this will work or not, and likely I'll just buy a new motherboard if I decided to upgrade my CPU in the future anyway (because with the adapter you'd have to also buy DDR2 as this motherboard uses DDR, and I'm sure this "adapter" would cost as much or more than a new motherboard, so why bother?), but it's nice that a manufacturer is finally thinking forwards.

ASUS is a good quality brand, but like everything, nothing is perfect. My first ASUS board was DOA--got it from the crappy place PartsPC.com as a motherboard/cpu/ram combo (NOTE: DO NOT USE PartsPC.com--they're horrible!!!). PartsPC blamed me for the MB not working and would not help at all, despite the fact that all I did was install the CPU and RAM in the case and try to power on the computer--which it did not do. I contacted ASUS, and customer support was great, and after contacting them for an RMA number, I received a replacement board in three days after getting the RMA number and shipping the dead board back. Aside from a component working well out of the box, customer support is also important.
