Default Router Vs Client Firewall

Do you think the security of having a router based firewall is better than that of a client firewall?

I do because it simply can block all ports, a software firewall very often leaves some ports open. But then again both methods can be ignored via a VPN tunnel!

Default RE: Router Vs Client Firewall

I personally think a hardware solution is the securest, but the averege home server dosen't usually need the level of security it offers.

I've heard of people having dedicated software server firewalls and hardware firewalls in their rackspace. But for any live internet server, or network, I believe that a hardware firewall is a must.
