Default dual boot

One of my PCs was set up as dual boot, with XP and W7. I have now done away with the XP OS. Unfortunately, on start up I am still asked whether I want to start with XP or W7.
To delete W7 you start in XP then – start -misconfig- boot ini and remove W7 unfortunately when I go to the same place in W7 there is only the default OS showing.
Has anybody any ideas?

Just a thought but what happens if you select XP? It should tell you it can't find it and then maybe restart? You could use the Win7 disk to start the computer (or emergency disk) and click on repair.

I know that I should start a new string but I wanted to ask you directly (Mel8Again)
I have a similar set up to you on one of my machines:
Amd fx quad core 3.6ghz with 16gb ddr3
You say your start up time is 20secs. Mine is double that despite disabling start up programs. How can I get this time down closer to yours?

Ah yes, I did get your private message.

What are you using for a hard drive? I have two Muskin SSD 3's connected to the SATA 3 ports on my mobo. The first one is for the os only and whatever software I cannot change the destination for. The second one has only my flightsim on it. The third drive is 500 GB SATA 2 partitioned in half where all personal files and programs I can change the destination folder for. The other half of the drive is for Macruim free backup done once a week or before installed new software. I don't have too many startup programs but the one thing I turned off was Windows Indexing in Services.

I have a 1TB sata HDD. I think it’s a Seagate (without taking the panel off)
It has 10 partitions
C-W7 drive
D-XP drive
E-Installed programs
And the rest to just keep it organized
I will however, have a look at this indexing and see what that does to it.

An SSD drive is much faster than a 7200 RPM HDD. There are no moving parts or heat. They are a lot more expensive so I got the two small ones for the os and flight sim and used a bigger regular HDD for everything else.

My two SSD hard drives are Mushkin. I think they are built by Toshobia. They are SATA 3 so you need a mobo that has SATA 3 in order to get the full value. They will work on SATA 2 bujt will be slower.

Newegg.ca - Mushkin Enhanced Chronos MKNSSDCR120GB 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
