Default Help!

I know almost zero about software and have a simple problem. I'am using firefox and vista home and my problem is at the bottom 2" of my screen there is a border (looks like a steel bulkhead with rivets. Anyway when certain things come up on my screen like a license agreement that i need to click on the bottom is covered up by the 2" bulkhead and there's no way i can drag it up enough to see and check the box. I don't even know what produced the bulkhead but how can get rid of it? Thanks.

Could you provide a screen shot? Have you tried changing the screen resolution?

Is the border in Firefox or your desktop? If it's in Firefox you could use IE that came with the computer and see what happens there.

I just switched back to IE and it's still there. As far as a screen shot i don't know how to get one, but the 2" bottom border looks like maybe a add-on, theme, ect. or maybe it comes with vista? I just don't know enough about computers, software, ect. but thanks for all help.

You can get a screen shot by holding down the CTRL key and press the PrtScn key. The image will go to your clipboard.

Do you mean the taskbar (the thing with the start orb at the very left)? I"m not sure how to change it in Vista but in XP you can right click on the taskbar and change the setting for "Always on top"
Also, try changing your screen resolution to higher numbers to make things smaller.. this allows for more space on the screen. You can change it in the Display Settings, i think to get to it in Vista you right click your desktop and click Personalize (its Properties on XP)

Resize the taskbar

You can resize the taskbar to create additional space for buttons and toolbars.

Right-click an empty area on the taskbar. If Lock the Taskbar has a check mark next to it, the taskbar is locked. Unlock it by clicking Lock the Taskbar, which removes the check mark.

Point to the edge of the taskbar until the pointer changes into a double-headed arrow** , and then drag the border to make the taskbar the size you want.

Try adjusting the screen resolution to a higher setting. It will make everything smaller, dialog boxes, icons, text. But i think you need to do that.

In the control panel,(from the start panel), (great now showing my famalirity with vista), look for the applet that has to do with display preferences/settings. Look for the section for resolution/screen size. There should be a slider, slide it to the right by clicking/holding and dragging. Then apply the changes.

It sounds to me like the dialog box is too large to fit, because the resolution is set too low. i've seen that make the buttons appear more like rivets, because you can only see parts of them, or the text is too large to fit in the buttons at all.

i'll have to launch the wife's lappy tomorrow to see about the exact settings in vista to give instructions. bedtime for now.

In Vista it's right click on a blank spot on the desktop, Personalize, Display Settings to change the resolution.
