| Hey guys my name is Chuck and I'm currently a first year college student. Currently I am faced with the task of creating some sort of programming design concept. I'm not exactly the best programming so I talked to my teacher to see if I could do some hardware changes. He said I have to have some element of programming to it but I could also do hardware changes. I had an idea that I wanted to do but really don't know how to pull the pieces together. So I wanted to get some help bring my project together! Well I guess I'll start by presenting my idea. My idea was to create my own computer interface. Many of you are aware of computer interfaces such as a mouse or a keyboard. I researched how a mouse works and I'm quite sure I how it does work. What I was thinking is I could take a mouse and completely gut it, taking the parts to reconstruct it. Of course this is going to become more of a mod than a from scratch mouse but I would get rid of the shell and make a different way of using the mouse. I was thinking about taking a glove that you can drag around like a mouse on a surface (Using the optical features of a mouse) or something of that nature. Also I would put buttons on the end of the glove so you could tap your finger to click the button. A cooling fan would also be an optional feature. Like I said before this would be more of a mod than a complete from scratch build however if I wrote a paper about how the mouse works, I could prove that if I had more resources I would know how to make the mouse from scratch. Now for the programming tidbit, I was thinking about making a driver or a program that could assist with the mouse somehow. I'm not exactly sure what I would do but anything that would be from scratch and easy to do would be great. Right now I've taken classes with PLTScheme, Procession 0135, and MaxMSP. I've been exposed to VB however so I could possibly work with that. Anyways thats what I was thinking about right now. I have to make a project proposal to my teacher but I think he would like this. However before I do that I wanted to see if anyone had any nit picks or insight on this. I would really appreciate criticism so dont worry about hurting my feelings! Thanks! Chuck |

| Hi there Chuck9125 Ive had a look around to try and find some information to help you with the drivers side of your project and found some hopefully useful information for you from the Microsoft Website http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/default.mspx It has some articles on the best way to create drivers for windows based operating systems. I have assumed its for Windows, if not please let me know. As for the project itself it seems a bit like trying to re-invent the wheel lol, seriously though its a good project for your class I guess and I wish you the best of luck with it. |

| I agree the re-inventing the wheel bit however I do think it would be a valid project. Maybe you could add more buttons, one for each finger, that way you have more functionality. Maybe make a peice of software were if you click down your baby (little,. smallest) finger it makes the optical sensor act as a mouse wheel and allows scrolling. Then have the other 2 spare button be shortcuts for copy and paste of something. Just a few thoughts. As to the programming, I am sure that a few bits of VB and some OS magic would most probably get it there. :-) Good Luck
