| My HP 1510 All In Ones scanner just died and I'm needing to buy a new printer/scanner of another brand, probably a Canon this time. I was wondering how this will effect my HP Image Zone 4.7 When I scan items I normally I go into the HPIZ and press "From Scanner" will this still be the case when I use a Canon product ? or if the Canon has it's own system do I still keep the HPIZ on my computer ? I noticed in the "Add or remove programs" the HP Image Zone 4.7 uses 269.00 MB and under that the HP Extended Capabilities also uses 269.00 MB. I'm not sure if that's allot so I'm wondering if those programs should be removed if the Canon system won't be using them ? what happens to all the scans ? |

| Yep - My HP Deskjet 840C was working well [albeit a bit loudly], nearly 8 years after it was made, on the day I gave it away to make way for a Lexmark All in One [which was a POS and has since been replaced with an Epson, but I still miss my old Deskjet and it's reliability]. I would check that your all in one is out of warranty before going to buy a new one.

Thanks Dr. Computer. yes it looks like the scans should be safe, when I press Start - My Documents - My Scans. the folders appear, I guess what I was concerned about is when I open the HP Image Zone a bunch of the old scans are shown and I was afraid of losing them, but they appear to be in the folders as well. In switching brands I'm just hoping to lessen the odds of getting another HP dud. mine has been problematic from the beginning and after spending many hours with HP support we were never able to solve the problems, it kept printing test pages when turned on and the error lights were always flashing. the first unit went back for repairs and they sent me a new one cause they didn't have parts to fix it, the new unit lasted a few weeks before the exact same issues surfaced again, it's gone back twice for repairs and had the scanner replaced, now the warranty is over and the scanner has simply stopped working altogether. I guess someone somewhere got the programing or electronics wrong with the 1510 since many other people have experianced similar malfunctions. this is my first experiance with computers and printers and I never did any product research, but next time I will ! ________________________ This user added the following: ________________________ Quote:

| The dell printers have had lexmark cores. Anymore, they set these things up to be disposable. It's a shame, not built like the old HP 4000. or the Okidata dot-matrix printers. Serviceable and real work-horses. I do use 2nd brand inks when i replace, and readily use the pre-paid recycle envelope. |

| I have a HP all in one, I dont know the model number though, It suits what I use if for, but it runs out of ink within a month if I use it regulary, and then the ink is expencive. I like Cannon more, my friend has one

The general rule of thumb is: The cheaper the printer, the higher the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) and vice versa. Have a look at this document: http://www.google.com/url?q=http://w...5NJKZmYFloUQXw By the way, inkjet printers may soon get much faster: Check out these Memjet videos. Pretty cool, huh?
