Okay, here is a thought, in the form of an example I have encountered.
Where I worked, we had Dell's with default software. They came with their own DVD player, as well as WinDVD. So, theoretically when I dropped in a DVD for testing (it was a library), the player (either WinDVD or the Dell player) would begin and play the DVD. However, on many DVD's (not consistent at first glance), whenever I would drop a DVD in, it would state that the Interactual Player was not installed, and would begin the install. Now, we didn't use that player, but each disk would want to install it. We did determine that it was the autorun.inf file on each DVD that was calling for the Interactual player. How did we get around this? Simple, we would cancel any Interactual install, and would start the player manually.
So, my question are:
You state that you get this install dialog when you start up. Yes Dr Computer could be correct, and you may have a virus. Have you run the virus scanner (updated)? NOTE: I just saw your last reply about scanning. Have you tried Trend Micro's house call? (use the plug-in/Active-X version) Getting a different perspective never hurts.
You need to look in a few places to see what is calling for that program. To Start, have you looked in the "STARTUP" folder (Start>(All) Programs>Startup to see if there are unwanted items trying to start when you log in?
Have you considered starting in diagnostic mode (msconfig) (If you are comfortable with that) to see what is showing in your registry for auto-starting?
I'll probably have more questions later. |
