Hi mason_001,
Firstly, I'd like to welcome to CompuForums - it's good to have you here. I hope you will be on the board for a long time, and if there is anything I can do to make your experience better please let me know. We are here to help you, so it would be appreciated if you could help us by posting in threads as well as your own. By doing so, you are helping to keep this site running in the future, and we will respond to your thread faster too. If you can't help us, then we can't help you.

mason_001 - it would be useful if you could tell us what operating system you are running. Since you haven't told us yet, I assume that it's a version of Windows.

You know, I've seen a single USB port go bad on a printer. In that case, windows could not recognize the device. Does the printer have a Parallel Port option? If yes, try that, see if it works. If not, try a different USB cable, Try plugging it into a different USB slot on the PC.

I had this same problem and I plugged the USB into a different slot and everything was fine.

Go on to the site of the company that supplied your printer (e.g.Epson - Exceed Your Vision), go to the tab that says Downloads, Download, ect. ect., look for a menu labeled drivers, find your printer model and download it
Right-click My Computer, go to Properties, Hardware/Driver manager Tab at the top
Go to the driver with an exclamation (!), select it. right-click > properties > Update Driver > find the file that you downloaded and press OK.
