Hey...MY computer which is a hp7690 won't start up windows XP....When i turn on the COMPUTER it just KEEPS RELOADING WINDOWS XP...It goes to the BLACK screen and then to the XP,then BACK to the BLACK screen etc....HELP from a NEWBIE....thanks

This can be tricky... not enough info.

When was the last time you had the system running normally? Did you change something (add a program, install updates, download something)?
There are several possibilities but let's start with the simple ones.

1) can you start it in safe mode or better yet, the Boot Last Known Good Configuration option? (as bios screen completes, hit the F8 key), it should give you the safe mode and last known good options.

2) If you can get into safe mode, try restarting. Safe mode runs several utilities to help the os repair itself. If not, while in safe mode, roll back your latest driver update (video driver?????)

If you can get in safe mode, and the driver roll back and repair utilities don't help, try to use the System Restore (start>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore Roll the whole computer back to the date/time you know it was working.

I'll TRY these tonight...The system worked great last night...I unplugged the computer last night so i could get a serg protector to hook up today and then this happens....I might add that it keep REPEATING on the SCREEN that says...SORRY for..... Hit START WINDOWS NORMALLY .....SAFE MODE,or SAFE MODE with NETWORKING,SAFE MODE with Command PROMPT...etc...and then it goes to the WINDOWS XP screen and then back to SORRY..etc...thanks from a NEWBIE...
