Default Vista's Backup software

Has anybody had any experience with Vista's own backup system? From the little Ive read, it doesnt seem too hot. I'd be interested in anyones first hand experience. If its not up to the job, can anyone recommend a better and safer alternative?

I have used Dantz Retrospect products with great success in the past for Windowed systems. Dantz is now known as EMC Insignia.

Vista's backup system is nearly non existent when compared Mac's Time Machine. But you can give Dantz a try for windows...they offer some pretty good solutions.

For anyone who is interested, since using Vista's backup, Ive had no problems. Seems to do the job I want, so I'll stick with it.

Thumbs down

I eventually had to call Sony and get their recovery disc cause nothing that I was doing worked. I made the mistake of trying to load XP before checking to see if they had drivers out for this computer for XP. I messed my whole laptop up doing that.

Sorry to hear that. Ive made my own recovery discs (surprised theyre not provided with a new laptop but thats a different subject) as a precaution. Im sticking with Vista. Quite happy with it now, no problems apart from an Email stuck in outbox and couldnt delete it. Found a fix for it though so no real hassle.

Vista's backup has worked reasonably well for me, but I still would not recommend Vista to anyone who is getting a new computer. It is too much hassle and too much money.

Mine was 'free' - an OEM version that came with the new laptop, same as everyone else's I presume.

Well maybe if you tried vista out and gave it a chance, you might like it. Vista is a great OS, and will get even better with time.

I dont know if I would say great it is a resource hog, but it isnt as bad as most people think it is. Once they get it to use less resources it will be a great OS.
