Default Opening a scanned photo question

I am not sure where I should post this question but will try it here. I scanned a photo and saved the scan in a tif format to MY Pictures. When I then tried to open it from that location I got a message that read "not a valid Win32 application". I have no idea what this refers to. I can open the photo with MS Office Document Imaging or MS Photo Editor or Elements but not directly from the location in MY Pictures. Do I need to make a change somewhere or save the scanned photo in something other than a tif format?

This is probably due to an application that has been set on your computer to open TIF files by default but has since been corrupted. What application do you want to make them open in by default?

Probably should stick to what I have used in the past which is MS Photo Editor

You can change the default program for it using this method:
1. Open the Windows Explorer
2. Go to Tools / Folder Options / File Types
3. Scroll down to the extension you want to change [in this case, TIF]
4. Click on the Change button
5. Select the program you want to associate with that extension [in this case, MS Image Editor]
6. Click on the OK button

Try opening it in MS Photo Editor and saving it as .jpg or .jpeg and then putting it into your My Pictures folder.
