If you're worried about Trojans, then consider Avast over AVG - you can still run TeaTimer with it, but Avast prevents you from even downloading a file if it has a trojan in it, making sure that a trojan is never saved to your HD.

You may be able to find something relating to the BSOD's here:
1] Start Menu
[2] Help and Support
[3] Pick a Task
[4] Tools
[5] Advanced System Information
[6] View the Error Log

I'm not worried about trojans, per-se - I'm just worried more about getting viruses 'n spyware 'n such over somebody hacking into my computer.

In that case, you'll definatley want to run Avast. AVG really offers a false sense of security, and I've found it's protection is only slightly better than Norton. Download it, uninstall AVG [after unplugging from the internet for extra security], install Avast, and if asked to do a boot time scan, select Yes. Reboot, give it an hour or two [depending on how much stuff there is on the drive] and come back to see all of the viruses AVG missed

Wow, it's been awhile since I've posted last. Sorry about that, I haven't had time to sit down and take a look at this. ****'s hectic, going back to college a week from Saturday and every day it's just work work work - something I gotta do before I go back to school - work - work - work - another thing I gotta do before I go back to school - etc. etc. etc.

In ANY event. I have not had ANY core dumps since the last time I said I had one on here (awhile ago since like, mid August). I also haven't been running zone alarm for that time - so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that was the problem.

With that said, I gotta now uninstall zonealarm due to its issues with everything else.

So now it looks like I'll take a look at comodo & Avast - see how that works out.

Are they free, or do they have to be cracked?

Also, is teatimer (part of spybot S&D) any good? I get the feeling sometimes that it's not doing jack to protect my computer (it's supposed to let me know of any registry changes b4 they occur - but somehow I don't think it does all of them :-\ - is there a better program that watches the registry for attempted adds? Or is teatimer good enough?

I don't have the same setup like that - I can't find the "help and support" anywhere - I edited my start menu - I forgot how to get to it but search isn't yielding anything.

I think it's irrelevant at this point anyways, I haven't been running zonealarm (uninstalled) and it hasn't crashed since I posted last time that it happened.

I'm running Avast and Comodo right now and they seem to be working 100%. They seem very good.

Thanks for all of your help in this annoying problem.
