Default Your Desktop

Hi,

For all of you mod'rs and skinners out there, what do your desktop's look like? Here are a few screenshots of mine:

1)Screenshot1.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

2)ScreenShot2.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

3)Screenshot3.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It's a pretty simple layout, with a few extra's thrown in (such as the 3D Windows). If anyone wants instructions on this just ask, but I'm more internested in some of the cooler mod's that computer enthusiasts do.

Hey drewrussell2011,

I personally dont like Windows Vista, I think its messy and very unreliable and i think that Microsoft rushed to get a new Operating System out, they only broguth it out because people are scamming out with all the other operating systems and they need a way to make money..

But name a think that Windows XP Cant do that Windows Vista Can do??

(Except all the Grafics like the 3D windows, to be honest why do you need 3D Windows??!)

I Agree. I installed it and performace was nothing near what I had on XP. I do like the GUI though, and that's why I mod'd to the best of my abilities my XP installation to look like Vista. (All of the things I used were freeware too.) That's what those screenshots were of.

I also agree. I had Vista Ultimate for about a week. Boot up time was horrible, and worked my memory like a dog. XP performs far better than Vista.

Here's my current Vista desktop. Vista Home Premium came with this laptop, and with 1GB of RAM and a dual-core CPU it runs pretty quickly. It runs about as fast as XP MCE did on my old laptop, with the same specs. Reformatting with a "clean" copy of Vista [I had a spare disk] and just installing core drivers, and getting rid of the stuff HP bundle however has made an improvement.

Yeah, I agree it runs pretty well. I use Acid Pro, Photoshop, and other utilities that require alot of juice, and I noticed Vista cached alot while running those programs. It was fine for alot of things, but XP (even with the eyecandy in those screenshots) doesn't cache at all hardly while running those App's.

My brother just bought a Sony with 1GB RAM, Premium, and Intel Core 2 Duo (2.0 GHz), and after removing the crapware, it ran surprisingly fast. I may give Vista another chance since I did buy it, but I seem to be pretty well satisfied with XP for the moment.

If you're satisfied with XP, stick with it. I really don't think that Vista can perform well with less than 1GB of RAM and a dual core CPU. I still think that there are several things that MS should improve however, which is why I mainly suggest to people who are considering getting Vista to wait for the first service pack.

Dont get me wrong, it is a good OS but I think Microsoft rushed to bring it out. If they had waited and fix more the bugs it would have sold more in my opinion.

I'm begining to wonder if Vista is not just a stepping stone for Vinnea when it comes out in 2009, like 2000 was for XP.

I would'nt say 2000 was a stepping stone OS. It was very reliable and still in wide use today. Windows ME, on the other hand...

Yeah I meant Windows ME , we have it on several pc's at work and it's a joke. I tried Vista when it was a beta and could not believe how resource hungry it was. I think for now staying with XP is better maybe until some service packs are released for Vista.
