Backup hdd with dvds

HI I am wanting to back up my hdd contents with dvd-rw but when I burn them using nero or using burn4free theres either nothing on the disk or the exploer.exe freezes. I want to do this before I go and buy vista home premium. What am I doing wrong. From my understanding you can backup data using dvd-rw. Thanks for any help.

What exactly are you trying to do? Put everything on your hard drive onto a CD-RW disk?

I want to put some of my more important content from my harddrive on to a dvd-rw.

Have you been burning disks before without problems? Have you tried another brand of disks?

No this would be the first time I would have tried to burn something using this computer.

Was the drive in the computer when you purchased it or did you install the drive yourself?
