Default Audacity

I have a audio program called Audacity. I use it to record.
It has worked great on my main computer but one day I installed it on one of my other computers, and when I opened up the program I wouldn't let me choose the input device.
It's greyed out. I need to be able to select the microphone as the input device but can't.
I don't know why.
Do any of you know what the problem is?

Can you see the microphone in the normal Windows sound mixer / volume control?

A year ago, I was using my mic to talk to my GF. A few months ago, I tried to do the same thing, but my computer would not detect my mic. I found out that something was wrong with my sound card and that the mic jack was broken somehow (i dunnno how).

Try using another mic to see whether or not your mic is broken, or that your sound card is broken like mine.
