Default Error When loading Backup exec 9.1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have just recently started my new job, and the first issue i have is that the backups haven't been down in over 2 months.

I have unistalled backup 9.1 which is currently on NT4. When i try and install it, it comes up with installation canceled.

Looking in the log file i have an error.

"FAILED TO INSTALL MSDE 2000 BKUPEXEC INSTANCE"

I have tried a number of site, but all seem to be using 2000 not NT4.

Please if anyone can i help i would be great

Default MSDE

You can download MSDE directly from Microsoft: Download details: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) Release A

MSDE 2000 is compatible with NT4, and the Product Information Page Microsoft SQL Server: MSDE 2000 Product Information is here.

After you install MSDE 2000, then re-try your backup. Please keep us posted on your progress. We'll help as much a spossible. There are a lot of gifted technicians here at CompuForums.org.

I have installed the downloaded load as advised, but still no joy.
Backup Exec9.1 log still says the same. Any other ideas.

Also message stating it failed to install third party product

Default Backup Exec 9.1

Soory to delay my response. Been researching this problem (and getting ready to move into my new Computer Reapir Shop -- lots of work).

Hopefully there isn't a compatibility issue. Backup Excel 9.1 is only compatible with NT4:
  • NT 4.0 Workstation, Server, Advanced Server (SP6A only)
  • NT 4.0 Enterprise Edition (SP6A only)
  • NT 4.0 Terminal Server (SP6 only)
Do they have these service packs installed? If so, it should be installing, both local and remote.

However, there may be some database issues. Please see: VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers - Software Compatibility List (SCL)

I will have a look and let you know.

9.1 was working on the server before i started here.
Before i arrived the lad before installed 10d onto another server, which then used the same SQL as 9.1. ( i think that make sence)

So i removed and reinstalled 9.1 to find that none of the services had started.(which i was unable to log into backupexec).

So then i tried reinstalling again and for which the error i posted appeared.

Copied off the log from Backupexec9.1 when failed to load]

Could you please advise me how and where to transfer my existing thread to a more global one.

I meant that it would be good if you could post in threads that are not your own. If you cannot help others, you can always post in our off topic section instead.
