Exclamation Converting avi's HELP !!!!!!

hello every1 im new here and im after some advice on this problem i have. i have been converting avi's, x-vid, so on to a dvd format so i can watch these films on my tv, i use win avi if any1 is familiar with this program or this process even. but certain files when i select them to be converted and then try to convert the win avi programs tells me it incountered a problem and had to end. this is getting frustrating now, some1 said it might be because theres a tiny error within the file that stops it. but i could really do with some ideas or alternatives or other programs i moght use to convert with. please help this one is out of my league people.

Hi there munkeyman,
Firstly welcome to CompuForums, I hope that you can stick around and post here rather than vanish, never to return once we've given you our advice which is a really unfair thing to do.

Firstly, what is the content of the AVI files and what is the approximate running time of them? Also, where did you get your software from, and is it a trial version?

hi there ash, sorry it took so long to get back with my responce just got back from work, anyways
thanks for your responce. well im not sure of the running time of the particular files in question, there videos/movies. the software is called WINavi, its not a trial version either. i would suspect the software if it wasnt that it worked fine for about 90% of the files i convert. somebody did say that maybe even if 1 frame was corrupt that it might not work. its just the way in which it happens. as soon as i select the file file to convert and it trys to start, i get that windows window come up saying sorry for the inconvinence but win avi has had to close would i like to send an error report so on. i was just wondering if any1 knew any other software i could try or anything for that matter. open to any advice

Hi munkeyman, do you have the latest codec file for the convertor? sometimes if the codecs dont match exactlly they make the whole thing fall over.

Another option would be to try Xvid to DVD converter software, google it and it should pop up, cant remember if you have to pay for it though!!

I have always used winavi, convertxtodvd and TGMPENC

They are all quality apps and they will do the job for you in very quick time ready to burn to a disk with Nero
