Exclamation Hotmail is NOT closing down, or charging free users!

It is surprising how many people I have heard lately that have been talking about Hotmail charging all of their free users to use their account, or it will be deleted.

I wondered where everyone had heard
this rubbish from, and then this morning I received this email:

Quote:
Hi,
This is Tara and John, the directors of MSN,

Sorry for the interruption but MSN is closing down. This is because too many inconsiderate people are taking up all the name (e.g. Making up lots of different accounts for just one person, etc.), we only have 578 names left. If you would like to close your account, DO NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE ON. If you would like to keep your
Account, then SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST. This is no
joke, we will be shutting down the servers.

Send it on, thanks.

P.S.
WHO EVER DOES NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE, YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE CLOSED AND IT WILL COST YOU 10.00 A MONTH TO USE. SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST. NOW YOU
KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE DO NOT FORWARD THIS or REPLAY. COPY THE WHOLE EMAIL.
GO BACK TO YOUR INBOX AND CLICK ON NEW. AND PASTE THANK YOU FOR YOUR
ATTENTION.

This is no joke if you don't believe us then go to this site:
http://news.BBC.co.UK/1/hi/business/1189119.stm
and see for yourself. Anyways once you've sent this message to at least 18 contacts, your MSN icon will become blue. Please copy and paste don't forward because people wont read them.

- Tara and John

I checked out the link, and yes, it does talk about MSN charging users etc. But if you look at the date when the article was written, you'll find that it is 7 years out of date...

I know it is obvious that if you receive an email like this it is fake.. but it is getting annoying at how many people I have heard worry about it...

This sort of thing amazes me...
at how one person can make a joke up like this, and at how fast news will travel around the place. It also amazes me at just what people do actually bieleve.

I'm thinking about warning everyone about the killer muffins from Mars...

Wow. That is one of the fakest email's I've ever seen lol. Microsoft in an email would never use all caps and would defiantly not make you forward an email on to keep an account. And plus, whenever you sign up for the free hotmail I've never seen a place to enter a credit card or anything so how could they charge you.

You can actually get Hotmail Premium which gives you no ads and more storage space. I've brought it [its not that much] but they haven't charged me yet...

I was thinking about buying that too. But at the moment I only ahve like 7% of my 5gb is it? used up at the moment... and I have somethign stupid like 5,000 emials saved... and I use adblock plus

so I didn't see the point. I guess if you own a busniss or something thoguh it would be worth it.

I use a lot of public terminals, so not having the big ad banner anywhere is great. Plus AdBlockPlus doesn't seem to get rid of the gap at the top where the ad would sit...

I remember when that email did the rounds years ago - there was also something similar going around then about MSN Messenger.

I like the chain mail with cute puppies and what not =D and then at the bottom it says "i hope that made your day, forward it on to make someone elses" I always delete them anyway.

Well I HATE the ones where they show you beautiful scenic pics of wonderful far off lands and then it says it will show you the best scenic view ever and you get a shot of these muscle overloaded guys with their kit off!
