Default File Sharing

Hi, and welcome to CompuForums. Are you tring to share individual files?

This can be accomplished by creating an account with a free Web Host such as WebNG.com and uploading the files. Because WebNG uses a Windows-based server, the files have to be zipped for security purposes. Otherwise, if you don't want to zip them, you can use a free Host such as Awardspace.

There are many free file-sharing hosts available on the web, if you search Google for it.

Each web host have different limitations and restrictions regarding what types of files you can share. Also, if any content (files) you submit is copyright, the Host will shut your account down.

What files are you trying to share? Please be specific.

alright, i have a usb external hard drive on my laptop and it's connected to the internet (wired) and i want to share it on the internet and make it able to share with my friends or whoever i want to be on it by entering something like a password to access it. Ex. I'm over at a friend's house and want to transfer a folder of music to his computer i can go online and access my HD through a website or something like that and not have to go through a server or anything like that and not have it cost a lot

Hi there MooseNP10 ,
Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit our forum often in the future and post - rather than just receiving our help and advice, and then never visiting again. We provide our help for free, and all we ask in return is that you participate in our forum and refer your friends, or consider a premium membership.

I'm not really aware of any free solution to this. You could however set up an FTP server on a computer the drive is connected to, and set the whole drive as accessible.

Or you could try a private p2p client, such as GigaTribe. I'm not to sure on the details, but you can invite friends to your network and share files with them. However, if you don't have a high download limit, it could cost some money if you upload more than your ISP allows,

FTPServer would be the easiest way forward for you.

Have a go.
