Angry Internet search help!!

When I search on any search engine, for example.Yahoo...when I type home depot then hit search button....several choices come up to click on...when I click on any of them, it doesn't go to home depot..it redirecs or jumps to another site, however...if I type www.homedepot.com in the browser it goes right to the website. Why, when I click any links after I search it redirects to some other website? Please Help!!

Hi there smitty0312,
Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit our forum often in the future and post - rather than just receiving our help and advice, and then never visiting again. We provide our help for free, and all we ask in return is that you participate in our forum and refer your friends, or consider a premium membership. Not giving back to the community is like stealing - we provide our time for free and hope to have some of yours spent on the site in return.

It sounds to me like you have some spyware/adware installed on your computer. What security software, antivirus, antispyware, firewall and browser are you using? We would also like to know what operating system you are running.

We do not recommend that you use Norton or Avast. Also my personal suggestion is that you use Windows Defender for antispyware. For the quickest fix, download, install and use Firefox:
http://www.compuforums.org/get-firefox.html
Firefox is also more secure than IE so you won't find any rouge toolbars with it apart from the bundled Google Toolbar.

No problem, we're here to help . I hope you can help us by posting often and telling your friends about us!
Norton is notorious for false positives and slowing down your system and the same applies to SpySweeper. Free tools do a better job, and you don't need to pay a penny.

Don't drag us all over the same cliff here Ash.
Norton ain't to bad if you just update it and edit it yourself instead of using
the basic settings. I've never had any problem with it, and i've ran several programs just
to see if norton skips any viruses/trojans/backdoors/other malicious things and so far it hasn't.

Although it's quite off topic, it had to be said. There are better ways of saying things so that
it doesn't sound like we're all against particular things here.
Just my 0.2 worth.

Well... I believe that Norton gives a false sense of security. It tends to create more problems than it solves.

That sounds like a personal oppinion to me. Doesn't mean you have to use the word
"We" in a sentence like that.

Anyway, the thread should be kept clean.
Im done here.

Well... I assume those computers are either very fast, or slower than you would expect them to be

Not to get off topic here, but Norton is far better than free alternatives (in my opinion, at least). First of all, it's got a multi-million dollar company backing it that works 24/7. So, you'll get updates to protect you against new software a lot quicker than anti-virus Software that is free and doesn't make much money.

Second, the 2007 line of Symantec products run much quicker, and don't slow my system down (not even at startup).

Third, Norton has never thrown a false-positive at me, and has been very reliable.

hello ... hello

How do you think they got all that money? From people who get suckered in, that is.

Cost of a program is not an indicator of its performance. Don't judge a book by its cover. All three of those are far Superior in performance to Norton.

I'm not saying that cost is an indicator of performance. I'm saying that since Symantec runs 24/7 and everyone who works there is paid, you'll get protected from new Virus' much quicker, because they're tons of people working there 24/7.
