Default is your download speed slowing down like mine?

hi

When i first bought the internet for my pc the download speed was 100k or more,

but recently it starts to slow down. Now its cut in half from 100k to a small 50k

and still dropping depending if i have web browsers up. I need someones help on

this. Does anyone know how to bring the speed back up, because I'm sure it isn't

viruses.

thanks to all that reply

Hi there danman15,

Firstly , welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit our forum often in the future and post - rather than just receive our advice, fix your problem and then disappear. We provide our help for free, and all we ask in return is that you participate in our forum and refer your friends, or consider a premium membership.

Now - if your modem does not have a reset button, then what you need to do is unplug and leave the power off for around 30 minutes.

However - this could be caused by other things.
Do you have any networking hardware such as a wireless router? And also do you remember changing any internet settings recently [or downloading a "speed booster" program]?

Thumbs up DSL Modem Reset

Generally, to reset a DSL modem there is a tiny pin-hole on the back of it. Sometimes the pin-hile is covered with a paper label or something. But it should be clearly marked as "Reset" in tiny letters.

If you find the reset pin-hole, take a paper clip and streighten it out. Carefully poke the paperclip in the pinhole until you feel the little "click". Hold the reset in that position for 30 to 60 seconds. Then release the paperclip from the reset pin-hole. You will then see all the front lights on the DSL modem start to flash and flicker one at a time. This means that you have successfully reset the DSL modem.

After resetting the modem, restart the computer. To once again gain access to the internet, you may have log back into the modem -- a screen will appear prompting you for your name, phone number, etc.

Or.... You could download DAP [Download Accelerator, a faster download manager - it's FREE and FAST! I find it to be very good. Although some downloads arnt always becuase of your connection, I notice some of mine download at like 20k with DAP. But yes, it increased your download speed by like 400% (So it says). Try it.

Kirk.
