Default Requirements

Hi Oleg. Thanks for the post.

The XP themes found on Belchfire are not free. They require a patch (Installation instructions here) to modify the uxtheme.dll file in additon to requiring a piece of software to read the Theme. That peice of software (called styleXP) is usually $20 and have seen it advertised as much as $40.

The themes from Belchfire sport some very talented works, by many gifted individuals. However, what results from the file patch that modifies the Windows XP file (uxtheme.dll) is unknown by me.

If I find the time, I'll research the patch and see if there are any negative (or positive) affects. If anyone else has experience with this patch, please post additional info.

Default Patch is unstable

Oleg, the patch from that software (UXTheme Multi-Patcher) is unstable on some Operating Systems (Windows XP with SP-1/SP-2 upgrades). In addition, I think it asks for your Windows XP CD Installation CD to modify the uxtheme.dll file and then may require a technical work-around, requiring a second patch to fix the first patch.

I've went to the website for UXTheme Multi-Patcher, and tried to look into the Freeware Authors website (its Publisher). I was redirected to a search engine results page (lucifiar.net) I question the software, and it's stability.

Technical work-around requirements have been reported, along with system crashes.

Not to scare anyone, but it has been reported to cause system crashes, lock-ups, and extreme technical work-arounds (not for the casual PC user) to modify the uxtheme.dll file

Default Software

Oleg, I know you haven't had an issues with it. And I am pleased with the performance you've received with it.

I'm just saying that Belchfire has several posts in their forums, from their members, who are posting complaints about the patch crashing their system. As a matter of fact, there are 4 pages of posts reporting nothing but problems and corrupt files.

Technical work-arounds to patch the uxtheme.dll file is just not my persona cup of tea, for a simple theme. I can spend 3 to 4 hourse trying to figure it out, or I can just take the money I would have made during that time and purchase a licensed copy of Windows Vista.

If I were up for the challenge, I would attempt it. The only other option I have to test this software patch would be to install it on a personal computer that I can afford to crash, if that is what happens. I really don't know for sure if it causes system crashes, as I've never personally experienced it -- I'm only reporting what others have had experienced with it, as shown in the above link to Belchfire.

I don't have any other recommendations than that.

Can you point me out to those posts I would love to see what they are saying about it.

Smile Link to forums

Oleg, I have edited the links in the two posts below to the proper fourm at BelchFire. On the opening page you'll need to scroll down a bit to begin viewing the start of the Post. There will be 4 pages total, with the Moderator making many posts.

I hope this helps to answer your questions.
