Grim Reaper is on a distinguished road
Default Cutting of my internet.

My internet service was cut of from my ISP, Road Runner. They cut me off because someone complaint about me spamming them, which I did not. I got it up and running again because they said it may have been a virus when I called for support. Now I would like to know if there are any ISP's out there that don't do this crap? And how does this spamming thing work, does it mean spamming E-mail or sites? And could using a web based proxy prevent this if all ISP's operate this way?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Grim Reaper,

Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you visit us in the future rather than just taking our advice and that you become a regular poster in the future - if you cannot do that and our efforts help you with your business - consider purchasing a premium membership. [ Premium Membership ]

It's likely that you had a virus on your machine that was sending out a load of bulk mail for spammers [it's a regular thing]. What antivirus software do you run?

As for suggested ISPs - I don't live in the US, so I can't provide a good suggestion.

But they should not have cut you off without a fair warning first - if you signed a contract with them, check within the terms - you may be able to get compensation.

Thanks and I'm glad to be here. I won't be off, I'm here to stay. I love talking about computers, I'm also apart of many other communites aswell.

About having a Virus, there is none that I can detect. I use McAfee, I also used several other scanners which I downloaded and there are no viruses on my PC. Yet they claimed I spammed someone which I don't see how they could have known and they just cut me off. I signed no contract with them so there is nothing I can really do about it there. Also, could using web based proxies play role in this problem?

Web-based proxies should not cause any problems - it's no different to viewing any other website [according to your ISP's logs].

Now - I'm not a big fan of Macafee - I always suggest using Avast Home Edition. [ Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition Download ]It also picks up almost all trojans [which are often the cause of these e-mails being sent out].

You should really ask your ISP for evidence of you actually sending these e-mails - the time sent, amount and e-mail addresses that received these e-mails.
