| Hi there freeon, Welcome to CompuForums! It's great that you have chosen to become a valued member of our community. If you need any help using the site or have any suggestions that would help improve your experience, them please do not hesitate to contact us. Hmm - I think that you need to check your internet hardware and connection before blaming the laptop. Running slow is likely due to adware, but if the problems persist after a format then it is very likely you have a problem with your hardware. Your PS3 transmit different data than what gets transmitted while surfing the net. Firstly, have you tried another computer to see if you have the same problems? Secondly, if you use a router, have you tried bypassing it and plugging straight into your modem? If you experience problems during all of these steps then you should contact your ISP - there's a problem with your cable.

| Hi. A lot of times, your network performance depends on certain settings that your ISP uses in comparison to the settings on your NIC. I like to use a trusty configuration utility called tweakdun (all it is, is a graphical interface for changing registry settings for NIC settings--it's never caused me any problems). Windows network settings (MTU, packet size, RWIN, etc.) are default optimized for a dial-up connection--which is unoptimized for broadband settings--for example, the default RWIN in windows is 8192 ( I think), but my ISP uses something like 65,000! This means that my network adapter was not configured nearly as well as it should in order to get proper download speed (in relation to packet size, etc.)--and often times, when I was downloading large files, the download would just stall. I never had problems with the computer freezing, but the bandwidth seemed entirely too slow, and caused a lot of problems--lots of packet loss, etc. Perhaps that's the problem? I'm not entirely confident that it is, but that's the only other thing I can think of--not sure if it can cause the system to hang. But if nothing else, when you resolve the issue, if you run tweakdun (and find out what settings your ISP uses), actual download speeds will likely be faster. Good luck!
