Default Using E-Mail as Evidence

Hello everyone,

I am new (really hehe!) and I hope I have come to the right place. Or that someone can point me to the right place.

I am not computer smart. Sure I can surf the net, work email, etc. BUT when it comes to the nitty gritty I am not your gal.

I have a problem....As I am sure due to the title its obvious I got my self in a snag. I need to authenicate email correspondences so I can assure they are admissable (family court). I use read notify but I don't think that will help....

I have been looking into info and found that I should

"subpoena the ISP transaction logs and the RFC data (assuming the message numbers are still intact)."

I have NO idea what "the ISP transaction logs and the RFC data (assuming the message numbers are still intact)" means. Would any of that information be on my computer? How do I find out who to serve?

Anyone know anything about this? Links? ,etc. ?

Thank you for any help,
Leland

Hi leland,

Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit us and post often in the future - it helps us to grow, and it's only fair that if we help you, you help us.

Please note: All advice we provide to you is provided as-is and we are not liable for any loss or damage, no matter what the nature of it is, not limited to but including legal, physical and financial.

What e-mail provider did you use to send/receive these e-mails? If you contact them they should be able to provide these - if not, then by law if they have a search warrant they will need to provide them, as well as the name and address of the sender or receiver [although the e-mail provider is not likely to have an address on file, the user's ISP will.]

Hi Leland
Are you using Outlook and a POP account to send/receive the emails? Are the emails you need to authenticate ones you have received or ones you have sent?
