| I need some good internet protection information ASAP. I think someone stole my IP address a month ago. I found a NETLOG tracking spy and spy software that had been installed on my home PC at lunch today. I also did a search on my IP address and found visits to sites I haven't visited. I have Norton and an AOL firewall. What can I put on my home computer to prevent IP tracking and hacking? |

| Hey there SexyAMGPrincess, and welcome to CompuForums. I hope you post here often in the future. An IP address is nothing to worry about - it is simply a number given to your computer. Some ISPs change it every time you log on, or even every time you load a new webpage. However, others do not change it in over a year, or never. It is likely that someone else had the IP before, and then you had it. But it's nothing to worry about, and your computer's security is in no way threatened by this. But it's still good practice to run up-to-date antivirus software, a strong firewall, and some antispyware software too. There are lots of programs that do these things, and for free. If you want some suggestions please let us know.

| What kind of Internet connection do you have? Cable, DSL, dialup? More than likely you have what is called a Dynamic IP address which means that it can change from time to time. |

| Definately nothing to worry about. IPs are shared amongst an area over time, probably one of your neighbours or somebody else in your region went on those sites. If you're really worried, call your ISP to confirm this. |
