Hi there and welcome to the forum. I hope that you browse the forum and post in other topics.
Firstly, I removed your e-mail address as you are e-mailed when somebody replies to your topic by default. Also, posting an e-mail address on a public forum can get spam.
Secondly, it is a good idea to back up important folders onto a CD or memory stick.
I am not aware of any good software that password protects and prevents a folder from being deleted and I do not recommend using them - the security is easily bypassed. I always back up important files on my memory stick, and since they are pretty cheap these days, I suggest that you get a memory stick or back up your important files on a CD/DVD.

I don't think there is an option for that.
Best way is to not put the folder there at all

Umm, built into Windows there is no way to do it. However I think if you have XP Pro or a Windows Server OS you can set folder permissions if you have seperate user accounts. But if you use XP Home, sorry but your dipped. There may be a third party app to do it, but I wouldn't trust it.

There is actually software available for locking folders - just google 'folder locker' and you will see them. Some have free trials so you can try before you buy but I don't think they are worth the money. Other options for 'hiding' data include: (a) set up a yahoo or hotmail account and email the files to that account; or (b) change the folder properties to make it hidden then toggle between showing and not showing in Folder Options. Option (a) is okay so long as you remember to check into your account at least once a month, or whatever the requirement is, or they delete all your mail! Option (b) is also okay but you have to remember to switch to 'do not show hidden files and folders' each time you log off or the next user will still be able to see them. Personally, I use a mini flash drive 512Mb as it is so simple to use - you can password it so if anyone does get hold of it your data is pretty safe.

One program that does this is called Steganos Security Suite. However, it's not a free program but the good thing is it has many features and not just the one you are looking for. If you are after something less expensive or even free, I would check out download.com for any possible programs.

Lightbulb WinZIP

If you have WinZip installed on your PC, you can password protect the file and the folder.

Other than that, I don't think there is anything inherent in Windows XP. You can, however, encrypt a folder/file, and making the file/folder private. This can be accomplished by right-clicking the folder, selecting Properties, click on Advanced, and select Encrypt.
