The Internet is a wonerful and fantastic tool. Life is much easier (in ways), and the Internet has significantly contributed to my family's health care in a positive way.

Had it not been for Internet access and public information, my wife would not be alive today.

My wife has a life-threatening disease called Dermatomyositis. It is a form of Muscular Dystrophy. She was hospitalized for 2 months, and the doctors had no clue what was wrong with her. Each day she was getting worse and worse.

One day a special Neurologist examined her while in the hospital, but would not treat her because we had no health insurance. However, he did write a word on the back of his business card, and gave it to me. The word was "Dermatomyositis" and told me to research it FAST.

I immediately went home, got on the Internet, and found it. Within 2 hours, we had transported my wife from that hospital to the county hospital, where they did not refuse to treat her. The doctors there asked me how I knew what I told them. I replied that I researched it on Internet.

The doctors replied with, "had we not researched the disease, and acted quickly, she would not have lived another 48-hours."

The "internet" is just a thing - made of wires, computers, switches, hubs, routers, etc. It is neither good or bad; it simply is.

Now, what you and others do with it is a completely different topic. "Guns don't kill people, people kill people".

The internet equals win. Because of the Internet people are able to communicate and promote themselves and their business much better, and even to do business better. I'm only scratching the surface of it's invaluability. I don't believe that the argument for it being bad because of children and their innocence is a strong one. That is up to the parents to make sure their children are protected.

Firstly, I believe the internet should be free and available to all citizens of the world.
Knowledge has been relabeled 'information' to create a commercial product that can be 'sold' - and thus many citizens of this fine planet are hindered in their ability to share this 'knowledge' due to lack of funds etcetera.

If knowledge was completely, freely shared, both on the internet, and off, by all, I wonder how much more enlightened, prosperous and progressive human beings would be as a whole?

There is definitely the 'recluse' factor - quite enjoy that myself. It has opened many a door for many people whom are not able to leave their residences (for whatever reason) - and helped them explore, grow, learn, teach and at times feel accepted, appreciated and valued.

Pornography and the like seems no more available here to me, than on the street in the Adult store down on the corner - or the prostitutes a few blocks away selling their wares each day/night. It doesn't stop pedophilia, nor do I think does it encourage it.
Certainly some information is more easily/quickly accessed via data transfer on the internet, rather than snail mail - yet the outcome in that respect may not really be that different?
If anyone has any stats on this - please share - I'd love to know.

The good in my opinion far outweigh the bad. Yes there are perverts, scams, viruses etc but the idea is to be smart about using the internet.
Firewalls, up to date virus protection and if you let your children use it supervise them and train them in safe net use.

The internet is a great thing, without it I wouldn't have a job

r u kidding me. Is this even a serious question. Of course the internet is a good thing. And i dont mean for those illegal downloads all yall r doin. think about it. Puchasing airline tickets, ordering medical supplies like through walgreens, information/study. There r millions of uses for the internet. What about internet based companies. Seriously. Even ash would be considered a hipocrit if he voted bad. This forum wouldn't be here today without the internet. Anyway, thats enough blabbering for now... I Vote Good.

But then some people have to ruin it of course and poison it with malware , porn etc

the Internet is excellent as long as its used in the correct manner!

oh, and i just want to note that all of the people who voted the internet was bad r total hipocrits because they had to use the internet to vote. good job guys.

This is the age of Information Technology, which would not have been possible without the internet, also imagine the kinda information and knowledge that we people are gaining....is far more faster and easier that what it was b4.(wikipedia..eikis, etc)
just like cityPCservice , who could feel the importance of the information cause he had less time remaining with him.
