Default Why MySpace?

I wonder, why does everyone love the site so much?

Default RE: Why MySpace?

I think it's mainly because it makes creating a "website" easy.

I've never used it, but I use something called Bebo.

The fact that it lets you make new friends, make quizzes, and get birthday reminders makes me like using Bebo, and I think Myspace is the same.

I don't have neither at the moment.

My take on it is that it's probably the fact you can create whatever type of personality you want to be. And still be somewhat anonymous.

Same thing with the chat rooms just one step forward.

They made is so easy that everyone's grandmother can have a webpage. So everyone tells everyone about the site, and everyone can start up a page easily. No HTML to edit.

And they reached some kind of critical mass where everyone knows a lot of people on it already, so people feel almost peer-pressure to have a page.

Red face My Space

My wife knows absolutely nothing about HTML or web authoring, but she has made an awesome site of her own at MySpace. Yes, MySpace makes it easy for people to created their own space without having to know all the little details behind the design.

I quit using myspace after most of my added "Friends" are spammers. They really need to fix the spam issue.

Try facebook! Facebook | Welcome to Facebook!

I'm a hypocrite in the sense that I use myspace (occasionally--I don't go to it but a few times a week, if that much), but I dislike it at the same time. The main reason I use it is to keep in contact with people that I ordinarily would lose contact with for whatever reasons. That's the only reason I think it has any merit at all. Other than that, the annoyances of people's "custom" pages (which are simply just annoying and sometimes difficult to read as well), and the high volume of spammers/hackers make the site really not worth it at all. Sometimes I hope it gets shut down, though I think it's far too profitable at the moment for anything like that to happen.

Facebook is better (fewer spam-type accounts), but I am annoyed at both. Yet I use both. Told ya--hypocrite.

I have a MySpace, but I hate the site a lot. It's got very poor security, my page has been hacked too many times to count, there is no spam folder so every time I sign in (about once a week) I am flooded with messages from girls that want me to look at their webcams, and their media players are terrible.

A lot of the MySpace girls e-mail asking to hook up are actually scams. They usually claim to be from another country and after building a relationship with you [using canned e-mails] they eventually [try] to persuade you to pay money for them to come and visit you. Of course, that's the last you see of the money.
