Default RAM Situation

Alright guys, ive got a problem for yous if you think your up to it.

I have a machine, that i just installed Windows XP Pro x64 Edition.

I ALSO have 4GB of RAM installed on my machine.

Now, the thing is, the O/S is not currently reading all 4GB of ram, or even close to that number. Its only reading 3.25GB.. which in my opinion.. sucks.

Now, ive edited the boot.ini file to allow more than 3GB of RAM to be read by the operating system, but as to why im here.. that did not work either.

So im stumped.

Any suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Did you just install the new RAM, or did you have it in before? Check with a third party software to see what RAM that says. CPU-Z or Aida32.

i had the same problem exept it was on xp pro 32 bit and it wasnt 4gb ram it was 1gb and it was reading it as 720mb i right clicked on my computer and went to properties then on the advanced tab theres options go on the performance options then under the advanced tab at the bottom theres a virtual memory option click on change and click on the custom settings there will be two boxes that will say "Initial size" and "maximum size" make the initial size the same as the maximum then clikc ok and the apply. it will thetn say that you have to reboot for the changes to take affect. this worked for me i can use all 1gb now. if this doesnt work then i dont know what to do
