Default New lappy

Hey all,

I am going to college so im thinking of buying a new lappy,
here are the specs:

processor 2.0Ghz
Ram 1GB
HDD 160GB
13-15" screen
with DVD/RW etc.

Heres my question: which OEM (IBM/ASUS/HP/MAC/TOSHIBA/etc.) should I go for so that it gives me the least troubles in terms of errors/stupid problems (so that I can concentrate on studies in college)

Thanx to ya all !

EDIT: Oh and my price range in around $1000±200

All of those OEMs produce pretty good laptops. I have a HP laptop which I have dropped on the floor more times than I care to mention, and it keeps on running. I also have an Asus eeePC which has a very good build quality, but I am not sure if it would be suitable as a computer to take to college unless you have a bigger one accessible elsewhere to transfer your notes to, etc.

According to a recent Consumer Reports review, all of the ones that you've mentioned plus Dell and Compaq have the same record for reliability. It really comes down to price and performance. No brand is perfect and as far as PCs go, they pretty much all use the same brand parts.

It can depend on where you live too. Here in NZ I have no trouble getting parts for my HP within a day or two, but I had to wait ages for a new battery to come from China for my Lenovo!

I reckon go for it. I have a Pavilion and have 2 kids who use and abuse so to speak. And I have had no problems at all. The stickers are worn out, but thats about it.
