hi all im not too sure what section this should go in

but im getting a new computer tomorrow i only have £300 to spend on just a base no screen i will be using it for genral internet surfing burning dvds and music and alot of downloading jsut wanted to see what you guys thought of this

COMPAQ PRESARIO SR5414 Desktop PC. Cheap COMPAQ home and office computers from PC World.


i will also be linking it up to my hdtv to watch films but i will invest in a video card when i get some more cash together

I wouldn't get it from PC World...
Why not build a machine yourself? It's often cheaper.

If that's your only option then its not a bad machine for the money, but as ash suggested PC world are not the best to buy from.

just need somthing quick really plus i dont know what im doing but i will be adding to this one when money allows.

when i stripped the pc down that broke i only had 80g hdd not sure what the ram was probally only 500mb odd so its going to be faster than im used to but im still worried about vista that fact ive never used it before and ive heard really bad storys about it

Vista should be alright on new machines. You don't have driver issues that you might have if you installed it on an older machine.

Wouldn't that be because it's the only operating system M$ sells to the manufacturers? At one time you could get a Dell computer with either XP or Vista if you were buying it online. People should be aware that Vista Home Basic will run on 1 gig of ram but any form of Vista above should have at least 2 gigs.

Well perhaps it's your processor, Vista should not be slow with 4GB Ram. Also Vista Basic Will function on 512MB RAM, and Home Premium is 1GB although 2 is best
