Lightbulb LOOOUD Laptop Fan

I've just inherited a new laptop and I'm very excited! It's a Dell Inspiron 9100. It has 512 Ram and A Pentium 4 2.8GHz Processor. It's about 4 years old but it was maxed out with the greatest at the time. I think it's actually a desktop replacement and not a laptop--it's soo big and heavy!

Anyhow, the former owner decided that she didn't want it anymore because the fan started to sound as loud as a hairdryer. It has two fans and I've used a program called I8kfanGUI to control the speed so it doesn't sound like an airplane taking off. This is a temporary solution as it doesn't fully fix the problem. The current temperature inside the computer is 53°C My Question: Should I try replacing the fan? I'm not a fan expert (the ceiling fan in my room doesn't even work) I don't know the best way to fix it so that it doesn't sound like a hurricane sitting on my desk.

Maybe you should try putting it in the freezer and let it sit over night. Then, the next morning, check the CPU temperature...
I wouldn't do that... Maybe you should get one of those things that holds up laptops to cool the CPU down.
Old laptops are noisy, maybe you could get a new fan.

With dells, I've seen something similar, mainly in desktop pc's. I have heard some fans sound like jet engines (and I know that sound). In several of those cases, we had to replace the heatsink (cooling tower) on those computers.

You may try getting some new thermal adhesive on the cpu, and possibly replacing the heatsink(If you have one or can get one). I don't think it's that difficult, but then, I've taken apart more than a few laptops.

Also, to get better performance, you could double the memory (or max it out if it has a lower RAM limit). RAM is cheap, and you will not recognize the machine
