Default Aweful computer performance, PLEASE help!

Ok well let me start out with a little background information about my computer, the hardware sepcs are as follows: AMD single core 3500+ processor, 3 gigs DDR RAM, nVidia 8800 GT OC (512 mb), Creative X-Fi sound card, an ASUSTek Computer INC. Amberine M 1.03 mobo clocked at 200mHz, and a 250 GB SATA harddrive at 7200 RPM running Windows Vista Professional 32-bit. Not the greatest of computers but not the worst, either...Ever since I got it the performance is lacking severely. I can get a capped out performance of 60-70 FPS in Quake 3, and a mere 20-25 in CoD4 but the framerate is never stable. That's aweful, Q3 is from like 96 why would this ever happen. Here's the actions I've taken so far: Reinstalled all the latest drivers (Except for mobo not sure how...), completely whiped out harddrive and started over, upgraded video card (from onboard), upgraded sound card (From onboard) and added 2 gigs of RAM, also upgraded from XP to Vista and no change so far! Getting very frustrated please help!

Running a 32bit OS limits you to only 2GB anyway so adding the RAM did nothing. Vista is a huge resource hog so I would have kept XP. You could have an overheating problem if you dont have proper cooling. Did you check your tempetures? Also how long have you had the CPU? It might need to be replaced.

Well the computer's about 1 1/2 years old, and the cooling is a good point I didn't think it factored into it that much, I've been researching liquid cooling in cases and I think I'm, going to do that soon but hos do I check the temperature of the processor and stuff?...I used to have XP and that's why I switched to Vista...Vista 32-bit recognizes up to 3.25 gigs of RAM and it sees all 3 gigs of mine so it should have made a difference.

No it never had good performance and like I said I thought it was the factory onboard video card (Radeon X200 64 mb)...Yes I have virus protection and I just reinstalled literally everything on the system, didn't even back it up so there's no viruses.

Hello Cr4cKeR,
Firstly - welcome to CompuForums. We provide our computer help for free, so we would highly appreciate it if you could help us. You can do this by answering other people's questions, or if you are not so technically-minded, post in our general lounge forum. Alternatively you can purchase a premium membership to help contribute to the rising running costs of this site. If you can't help us then we can't help you. This system allows us to continue to provide free computer support.

What anti virus software are you running? If this is a prebuilt PC - what manufacturer and model number is it?

It's a Compaq Presario 061 ER922AA-ABA SR1834NX NA660 0nx1411RE101AMBEM00
System Serial Number: MXF614084C

I'm running Webroot Spysweeper with Anti-virus.

( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Benchmark2.jpg ) - ( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Benchmark1.jpg ) - these are the 2 links for the screenshots I just took from the benchmark test. I downloaded "Performance Test 6.1" (PassMark PerformanceTest - PC benchmark software) and those are the results. I have no idea what they mean but maybe they can give you guys a clue as to what my problem is...

I'm not currently at my computer but I can estimate and the numbers will be pretty close, I have a pretty good memory. I believe processor was a 4.2, memory was a 4.7, graphics were both 5.9, and harddrive was 5.1. Base score of 4.2 on the processor and I'm actually really sure those are correct. You are referring to those scores, right?

Yes that is correct. I just can't seem to figure out what could be holding your system back at this moment. I will keep thinking and get back to ya.

Hmm... you mentioned in your first post you have a "Amberine M 1.03 motherboard clocked at 200mHz" - is this the FSB of your motherboard?
It would be handy to see a few CPU-Z screenshots.
