| I'm kind of a newbie here so hi everyone. I've built about 5 computers no serious problems with any of them but this one has me scratching my head. When I power up the unit everything is fine, it will boot up to where it should load windows and it stops there, there is no error message but the screen says "that it couldn't load windows, if its from new hardware or software use normal start, if you don't know what the problems is use safe mode", but when I use safe mode it just reboots back to the same window. When I use safe mode and press the F2 button I can get into bios and everythind looks fine. Could memory cause this? This my upgrade MB Intel DG33FBC 775 CPU Intel E2180 2.0G 775 retail Memory 1GBx2 Kit Crucial DDR2 533 HD Seagate Sata 160 GB Lite-On Sata DVD burner with lightscribe |

| It is likely that you will have to back up what's on the drive and reformat Windows, or at least run a repair install.

| I was afraid you say that. How do I do a repair install? bwise1 |

| As long as your new motherboard has an available ide slot you can just move the contents from the one to the other. If that is the case I would just do a clean install.

| Ok I tried to do a clean install and when it started loading files there were a lot of files that it couldn't find and I have the original disk, when the winxp logo appeared it would keep rebooting. How can I reformat my new sata harddrive, when I boot off the winxp cd it don't give me an option. Can I put my sata HD in my old computer and reformat it from there and take it and put it in my newer computer and do a clean install. bwise1 |

| Hi Debian, this is becoming a nightmare, I did it your way and it worked, I got the HD formatted it started loading files everything was going fine, it said 28 minutes left for installation and then a blue screen appears and says " A problem has been detected and windows has to shut down to prevent damage to your computer". Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. then it gives some technical info such as: ***STOP: 0x0000000a,(Ox0000001O,OxOOOOOOO2,Ox00000000,Ox805 1AA58 I don't know what this means. Could it be a compatibility problem such as MB and CPU, or Memory problem. Anyway if you got any other idea please let me know, in the mean time I'll be doing some checking also. I really appreciate all the help you and Ash have given, you are a compliment to this forum. bwise1 |

| It's older, it's the sp1 orgininal disk. I took out the memory reseated it, took out the MB made sure it wasn't shorting out, took off the CPU, put on new Arctic Silver, put the heat sink back on rebooted and nothing changed. same o same o. Must be a bad MB or CPU. I don't know what else it could be. I'm at the end of my patience. bwise1 |

| Being that its an older disk Windows XP might not have the proper drivers for your SATA drive. Did the drive come with a disk? You might also want to try linux it is less of a resource hog anyway, but that is totally up to you.
