Default Stupid computer display settings

Yea this is the first problem ive had in ages, ive tried alot of things but i cant fix it. My computers display theme and color is stuck on the lowest setting and when i troubleshooted it to try and fix it, it wouldnt let me click on the properties button to try and update or select a different model of the monitor. I dont know what to do know, any suggestions?

You use Windows Yeah? have you tried going into device manager and uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them? Maybe this might solve it. Probably not but it may do?

errm, have you tried booting in safe mode, then trying what you did?
and if not, you could have a look in the Device Manager, and try rolling back the driver settings?

AHHH, finally, thats exactly what i did, both of those things you just said. None worked. I formated my HDD with a new XP CD that i had and i guess it deleted the driver for the standard graphics card that i had and now i have no clue what the driver is. If any further help could be provided thank you! the PC i have is a HP Compaq pentium 4, and its one of those small PCs the ones that are alot smaller than reguler desktops.

I think what he means is, Since re-formatting and installing Windows XP he is having issues with the drivers for the graphics adapter.

GHOST! - Do you have written anywhere on the machine what model it is?? Do you know if its on the motherboard or whether its a seperate card. If its built into the motherboard then you should be able to find the make and model of the board (usually written on the board somewhere) and find the drivers for it, hence you will then have the graphics drivers too.

yea, i checked around, but i dont know the type of PC it is since my dad brought it home from his work. Its just an HP and its one of those desktops where they are alot smaller than regular PCs. Idk i think since i formatted the HDD it deleted the graphics drvier, but see the thing is... that i have formatted it before and this problem had never come to be before and out of the blue it is now. And also, when i go to Boot the XP CD up, the colors on the XP booting menus and the welcome parts are all the correct colors, but then once it starts the machine up, it automatically turns to this gross pixely faded color where none of the buttons look right and everything is all jumbled up

well i thought u said the monitor didnt display anything. my dads computer had that problem, but it is fine now. lol our method was turn it off, give it some time, turn it back on. have u ever been "inside" a computer? try and find a motherboard make/model.

yes, i have been "inside" a computer. This is not my problem. Something is screwed up with the computer itself. I dont know the Name of the PC b/c all the things are ripped of of it and scratched away from years of use. Going inside of it would not help me in any way.

But it sounds to me like you have not got the correct drivers. Therefor you need to establish what sort of graphics card it is that you have. As you already know you get onboard graphics (which I imagine it is) or you get separate adapter cards plugged into a pci slot. What Im trying to get at is you need to establish what model the card is if separate, or what model the board is so you can get the drivers this way. This is the only way your going to be able to find out which drivers you need.
