| Hey guys, This past week I decided that I was going to change the thermal paste on my processor. I went with Arctic Silver 5 from Radioshack, applying it on the CPU the way it showed on Arctic Silver's web site (http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appi..._dual_wcap.pdf). After putting the heat sync back on, I decided to monitor the temperature through the BIOS and found the CPU idling at 50 degrees C. From what I understand this is a little too hot for just a plain old idle and I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out a solution. CPU- Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Processor(Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail) Heat sync- ZEROtherm CF900 Socket 775 Copper Base Heatpipes CPU Cooler at TigerDirect.com Thanks

| find the specs for your specific processor. Yes for idle that does seem warm, but you need to find the specs to be sure. Clean your system (blow out all the dust), and see if that helps as well.

| The processor controls the fan speed for mine. When I installed the heat sync, I made sure to pay close attention to detail when installing it, so I installed it how they wanted it. I went to intel's page and found a bunch of technical junk, but eventually stumbled upon a datasheet that told the temperature of CPU per watt delivered, and it appeared that the processor normally operates between 44 and 72 degrees C (72 being the absolute max). There shouldn't be any dust yet, mainly because it's brand spanking new and that I've reapplied thermal paste at least ten times within the past two days in a desperate attempt to get the temp to come down. Thanks for the help!!!!
