so, i don't know if this is a hardware of software issue. i'm guessing it's hardware because i just got the laptop back from compaq and they replaced the motherboard. the computer will now not wake up from hibernation mode. i have to press and hold the power button to get it to turn off. any suggestions?

hmm, well there isnt much you can do if the computer wont turn on at all. but maybe you could try taking the battery out, and then just keep the power cord in the jack and try and turn it on.
also, try taking the battery out and unplugging it, push the power button, let it sit for bout 5min, put the battery back in and plug it and try and turn it on. this should reset the power unit in it.

Hm... this, and the other issues you've been having make me think you've got a different motherboard [maybe a model up or down] than what was in there before. If the drivers required for the motherboard differ, you get all sorts of problems. Either that or there are various settings disabled in the BIOS - have you had a look in there to see what's on / off?

I would suggest a reformat to see if the issues continue, but of course you'll need to back up all of your stuff which can often be a pain.

Are you fully patched? MS had a problem with that in XP, and they released a patch. I've never fully tested to see if it still happens. If it's Vista, check for updates.
