| Hi again. Sorry for my I can't delete this post. To the point. I am not trying to start some debate I just wanted to know some opinions on computer makers. Basically I've owned only this junk heap of a laptop and am shopping for my next computer. I am not completely computer dumb I'm just inexperienced with most hardware so I'm coming here for help. I have never like gateway very much. I can't base that on anything accept never used one that wasn't really slow due to the fact they weren't high-performance computers. I liked every Dell I've used but never attempted any gaming or more demanding software on them. I plan to get a computer that will be used mostly for gaming and maybe some photoshop editing. So I need a computer that can handle demanding software. My parents have an HP, my good friend has an HP. They both run great and my friend uses it all the time for gaming but I have never used one. So I need to know if gateway is reliable for gaming and if Dell can handle games to. I don't really want an HP cause I can't find one under a $100 with an Intel processor(I only trust Intel cause I'm related to the vice-president[he barely knows me though and never sends a Christmas card...]) from bestbuy. I have to buy from them cause my parents are buying the computer and will only buy from bestbuy. Finally I need to be able to upgrade it down the road. So what does the compuforums.com community suggest? |

| Dell: Some people have found them reliable, others have not. The quality of their components varies [Maxtor drives anyone?] I would stay well away. HP: I've brought HP computers since 2000, and all of them have lasted for a long time. The few times I've ever needed the warranty service have usually been where I've broken them [although even then, my laptop has taken quite a few drops without any problems]. The warranty service is quick and good, but be prepared for outsourced call centres. Overall, I'd go for HP.

| Gateway? to what level of hades are you going? (are they still open for business?) Dell: I've had to reinstall original equipment (downgrade) to use the dell re-install cd's HP: never had problems (using one now that is over 5 years old) (I'm too cheap to build another yet) They all have their problems, they all have their advantages. Dell laptops had a bunch of bad hatachi hard drives a few years back. *shrugs* *meh* in the end, it always boils down to personal preference. |

| I personally prefer Dell, I think they have really good hardware, and I have Dell Laptop since 2001 and I never needed to mess with it even once, still runs like a champ (running SuSE 9.3)

| I replaced a Maxtor drive in a Dell machine that was failing [that had not been opened before], that's where I saw a Maxtor in a Dell
