| Hi All, I have a fairly simple computer question reguarding a DVD Writer. I have a Dell 4700, P4, 3.0 Ghz, 1.5 Mb Ram, 30 Gb HDD with SATA interface. Currently I have a CD R and a CD R/W in my computer connected with the IDE interface. I received a new DVD RW with SATA interface for christmas. I would like to remove one of the existing drives and replace it with the new DVR. I have an open SATA port on my motherboard. My question is: Can I plug the new DVR into the existing SATA Port snd run one or both of the other CD drives through the IDE interface or should I RMA the new drive in place of one with an IDE interface??? The manual that came with my PC suggests that Only hard drives can be plugged into the SATA port. Thanks in advance |

| Hello there Yakman, Firstly, welcome to the site. We are here to help you and want to continue to be able to provide our free assistance, but in order to do so we require users to help us too by simply being an active member. This involves posting in threads other than their own [technical or not], referring friends or helping to pay for the site's hosting by becoming a Premium Member. If you can do this it would be much appreciated, but if you can't help us then we can't help you. If you've got a spare SATA port then there is no reason why the DVD Writer shouldn't work with it. The best thing to do would to simply boot it up, install the new drive and see if it works.
