To be honest, as a first laptop for general web browsing etc, the first one will be fine. What brand is it anyway?

The first one is fine for what you will be using it for, but get the 1gb upgrade.

That is what i was thinking - Do you think the 1 gb will be enough for Vista?
I don't know anything about the vista - but i have read a lot of people are having problems with it being slow even with 1 gb.

No, 1GB would not really be enough. But with a Celeron M, you will want to really install XP onto it, or if the person who is receiving the laptop has not used a computer before, you can save the expense of XP and install Linux.

Yes if he hasn't used a computer before I would go with Linux (Kubuntu) even if he has used one Kubuntu is better anyway

i would get linux ... its really unlimited to what it can do

id get the 2nd one with the pentium dual core processor 2 gb of ram and vista home premium or better ( or 1GB with xp)
