Okay -
Tell me this:

What would be faster a 1gb RAM 160 mhz hard drive or 2 gb RAM 80 mhz hard drive to run vista?

What is more important the amount of Ram or the amount of hard drive.

well ram and HD is a HUGE diffrence

id say 2GB of ram i dont know where you got 80Mhz from and the hdd space depends on what you plant to do , but 120GB seems to suit most fine

sorry for being so ignorant. I meant 80 mb or 120 mb harddrive . i was just trying to figure out which one would be more important to run vista. I'm having a disagreement with my spouse on this. She thinks that the memory 2gb is more important than the amount of hard drive. Does the amont of hard drive make a big difference in how fast it runs.

The amount of hard drive space has no affect on how fast it runs. The ram affects how fast it will run. Your wife is right.

i assume you mean 80gb not 80MB

well the 80 and 120 will perfrom the same on vista , but you will have less space to store things

if it was me personally id get 120 and 2gb of ram but youll see more performance out of the 2gb of ram either way

and Jsmith70 your correct to a degree , if they fill up the drive and has less than a gig or so of space its going to drag the entire operation down so id opt for 2gb ram and 120Gb hdd

I said hard drive space has no affect on how fast it runs, I did not say that free hard drive space has no affect on how fast it runs.

Agreed. The 2nd one Is the better choice. Processor is faster. Plus with the rebate, It's cheaper than the "upgraded" Toshiba Satellite 530. Also the integrated video is better on the L45

Since its a first laptop id go with the first one. But if you want to run vista you should try to upgrade to 2gb ram so you get a smooth running machine.
