Default Dell Inspirion M1004 error

Hello All

I am new to this forum and am writing because as an owner of an Inspiron 5150 I have also been experiencing the M1004 heating error codes. I am writing because I would like to know if anyone can tell me if and how I can access my BIOS error log. I have an open case with Dell regarding the M1004 codes and as a friend of mine reported to have seen another error code on my computer when using it last week he was not sure if it was the M1004 or not.. So I would like to be able to retrieve a list of recent BIOS error codes if possible before calling Dell tech support.

I went into F2 BIOS setup upon booting but did not see any error log section.

Also went into windows system error log file but did not find any code which appear to correlate in number or verbiage to the M1004 overheating error message.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Protoplano

Hi there protoplano,

Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit our forum often in the future and post - rather than just receiving our help and advice, and then never visiting again - not posting once we've helped you is like stealing from every member that has helped you. We provide our help for free, and all we ask in return is that you participate in our forum and refer your friends, or consider a premium membership.

I am not aware of any 'Dell BIOS error log', and the Windows system log will not mention BIOS. Are you trying to find out the meaning of the M1004 error to tell Dell support? All they will need is the error code. However - if you could tell us the reason why you are contacting Dell, perhaps we could be more helpful than their low-wage scripted home support staff [which are outsourced to India].

OK, the error is suggesting that your BIOS revision is out of date. You need to flash to the latest one.

Do what jsmith70 suggested and it will fix it.
