Well, more important than the VRAM capacity is whether it has a good chipset. Given what you're describing, I'd bet you have either a x1300 series or a x1600 series card with Hypermemory--Hypermemory actually hurts gaming performance in games that could use more VRAM. With more than 512mb of system RAM installed, it is automatically enabled, and cannot be disabled (which is stupid in my opinion). Okay, hypermemory aside, a good chipset is, in my humble opinion, more important than more VRAM (for current games, that is).

However, I'd bet that the card you have will be better than on-board graphics performance.

EDIT--seems you edited your last post before I finished typing mine. Forget what I said about the hypermemory thing--doesn't matter if you've got the x1650pro

No worries. Looks like the start of a great AGP system you've got going on there.

Ah, 9550 was the card I had before my x1950pro--it's probably one of the better previous-gen AGP cards--probably one of the more underrated cards, but it works really well--played BF2/2142 with no problems on medium settings. Not a bad card for now. Hope it works out well.

can you only run AGP cards? Cause i know some PCI-E cards that are a lot better than that and are about 50 bucks cheaper on NewEGG
