Do you use an external hard drive or a USB memory stick? I know that in my previous computer, if I left the external HD on, or left my memory stick in the drive when I shut down or started up the computer, the bios would recognize the drive(s) as possible boot drives, and change the boot order of the drives in the BIOS to include those drives. The next time you turn off/hibernate the computer without the drives in/on, you'll see the same message likely.

If you turn the computer off without a memory stick plugged in and without an external drive turned on, does this happen still? That's the only reason why I think this could be happening, or at least happening so freuently.

If you do often use an external HD or a memory stick, make sure to completely remove these items when you turn off your computer. Likewise, make sure not to connect these items before you boot into windows, because the same thing will happen.

Hopefully that's what's going on. This is nothing serious, just annoying because you have to hit a key on the keyboard everytime it happens in order to get past the boot screen.

If you don't use either an external HD or a mem stick, then usually to load defaults in BIOS it's one of the F-keys on your keyobard--I know that usually F10 is to save and exit--there should be a list of options in the "Exit" part of the BIOS menu that will show what the defaults option is.

Yes, I'd be willing to bet my paycheck that that is your problem. Some BIOS versions are able to intelligently handle things like removable drives while others are not--looks like yours and my previous computer's BIOS weren't so good at that. It's always a good idea to safely remove any USB drives before turning off your computer because they could be in the proceess of reading/writing data, which could cause data corruptions or loss of data in some cases.

You shouldn't be experiencing any problems with external optical drives, though it's a possibility.
