Default need feedback on building a computer

I want to build a computer, I am not a gamer so I don't need the latest and greatest computer parts, basically some video editing, surfing the internet, word processing, and maybe an occasional game. I would like something that will last for a few years without having to upgrade too much.

Here is what I have come up with so far

Antec Solo case
Asus p5n-e motherboard
evga 7900gs video card
x-fi x-treme audio card
corsair value select ddr2 667
intel e6600
win xp

the hard drive and other stuff i already have, anything feedback would be welcome. I have been thinking about going up to ddr2 800 memory. Over clocking is not a big issue, but would like a board with it so i can play around with it later on.

That rig looks like, despite your claim to not play games, it would play any game currently out--and probably a lot of newer ones. Good idea going with a decent video card if you want to do video editing.

If I were to change something, I'd get rid of the Corsair Value Select--this is their second-tier RAM that doesn't pass one of their quality-control checks. Basically that means that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I've found that, while I started out getting basic value-RAM, it's a bad way to go. The best way to get better performance out of your computer, and to build a more stable rig is to get very good quality RAM. It costs a bit more, but it's worth it in the amount of headaches you'll not have over the computer. Plus if you want to do things like play the occasional game and do some video editing, you'll benefit from better RAM. Obviously you might as well get a dual-channel kit as opposed to one stick of RAM...

But I'd say all in all, you're going the right direction with C2D, and ASUS puts out great motherboards. Hope the build goes well. It looks like a great computer!

Yes, definitely go with that RAM over the previously mentioned RAM if it fits in your budget. Personally I like OCZ a lot, but that Corsair you listed is great. Generally for a good 2GB dual-channel kit you'll want to spend around $200 give or take. Have fun with the build!
