Default dual view monitors trouble

Hello. I have an Envision 19" wide-screen 1440x900 res monitor that I have had. My brother just got a laptop and gave me his KDSusa 17" box-screen. I want to use the two for dual view. My video card book tells me to just plug them into two ports and click "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" to make it work, but when I turn on the secondary screen it says no signal and doesn't work. I plugged the wide-screen into one of my video card ports and the box-screen into the other video card port. Is this right? I don't understand why the dual view isn't working.

Hi. On most computers you need to hit fn+F8 (or whatever button on your notebook corresponds to switching graphics adapters between the primary interface and the secondary interface). On my gateway, I have to push fn+F4 (fn=function button). There should be a small icon on one of the F buttons that looks like a display--fn plus that button should do it.

Well...I can't seem to find any function button. I guess this new keyboard I got doesn't have it and there are no images on the F buttons. It might be that my SLI GPU only supports either the dual video cards or the dual screens at one time.

Oh, sorry--I thought you were the one using the laptop--I mis-read your post. Okay--does the monitor you're using have two inputs (like one DVI and one VGA)? Could be that the monitor setting is set to analog instead of digital or vice versa? Or, if you're like me, you didn't realize that the cord had come loose from the back of the monitor, and wasn't picking anything up on one of the inputs? That's all I have...sorry... I don't know much about SLI or Crossfire settings.
