| When did you get it wet? You should have really left it off for at least 3 days, with the battery out. I suggest that you do not attempt to switch it off - leave it to dry out for a week. The reason is water [or whatever water-based substance you spilled] is a conductor, and will cause a short-circuit inside your laptop. The short circuit will be preventing the laptop from starting up. So my advice for you is to leave it to dry out completley near a heat source [such as a radiator or near your home's boiler] with the battery out - and do not supply power to it until after the week is up. Let us know how you get on.

| ok so yea if you got it onto the keyboard it should be ok but if you got it into the internals it could short circuit your computer like what ash said If I were you I would maybe try to see if it into the keyboard or onto the internals. I feel bad for you man |

| Just 'cause only the keyboard got wet doesn't mean it's okay--the underside of a notebook keyboard is not sealed off from the internal components of the notebook. My friend spilled a bottle of water all over his older HP notebook (it was turned off). He called HP, and the tech guy told him (off the record of course) to turn his oven on the lowest setting, and leave the notebook in there for an hour or two. This was at his own risk, and should you choose to do that, it's at your own risk as well. But it worked perfectly for him. Leaving the notebook in air for 3 hours would have done nothing to dry out the internal parts--that's why they recommended the oven. If you don't want to go the oven route, then yes, I agree with Ash--you should have let it sit for quite a few days to dry out--preferably in a warmer environment. If you tried to power-up the notebook and it wasn't completely dry, likely you fried some component on the motherboard. But it could also be as simple as a short that is not allowing proper conduction--could be either. Hopefully it's the latter. If the notebook was powered up when it got wet and then shut off, then likely it's fried and you can't do much about it. Hopefully it just needs to dry off a bit.

| Well thanks for your help but it still isn't working. I'm probably goin to bring it to a computer repair shop and if they can't fix it or if its goin to cost me an insane amount of money, I'll just call alienware and say it just shut off, hopefully they will blame it on something else like the battery or it over heated. When i said brand new i ment it i only had it for 5 days, but I guess it was bound to happen over the past 4 months I've been having the most horrible luck.I'll reply again if i get it fixed or i get a new one from alienware. |

| Don't take it to a repair shop - them opening the laptop may invalidate your warranty. Also, if Alienware find out that there was water in the laptop - that may also invalidate your warranty and you'll have to pay for all repairs.

| Likely spilling water on it is not covered under the warranty unless you purchased the accidental damage plan that they sometimes offer. So if it works out okay, then good, but I think it might be very obvious, when they take a look inside the notebook, that some sort of liquid was spilled on it. But on the other hand, sometimes it's more effective for them to just replace the motherboard and ship it back to you rather than asking questions...
