| Hi Guys I desperately need your help ASAP. I am at work and somebody has put in a batch file which is starting different apps and games on my PC everytime I start my PC. I am using Windows XP Professional and have admin rights. Basically my peers wanted to teach me a lesson on the importance of logging off. Please help me in this because my IT skills are very weak in this kind of troubleshooting. so how do i remove the batch file from the startup on win xp pro. thanks, |

| Hi Jack, Welcome to CompuForums! It's great that you have chosen to become a valued member of our community. I hope that you can visit our community and post often. Also it would be fantastic if you could add yourself to our member map. If you need any help using the site or have any suggestions that would help improve your experience, them please do not hesitate to contact us. Your co-workers could have placed anywhere on your computer, and also possibly hidden it. But rather than finding and deleting the batch file, it would be more simple to prevent it from loading in the first place. The easiest place for them to put it would have been the "Startup" folder - to see if it's there click Start > [All] Programs > Startup. Anything in this special folder is launched when you start your computer, and it's likely they simply put the batch file in there. If this is not the case, let us know and we will list other places to look.

| Hi Jack Glad to know that the problem has been solved. I was going to suggest msconfig if the batch file wasn't in the Startup folder. If you ever have computer problems again or just want to chat about anything, you know where we are. And if you want to stop it happening again, try using the Windows key and L key combination. On most networks this will lock your computer, requiring you to put your user name and password in, without having to log off. When you unlock it all of your windows will be open just the way you left them.
