| Hi, I suddenly lost sound in one of my speaker channels the other day. When I checked, I found every obvious thing to be OK, so I thought I probably needed to change the sound card. But it seems there is no removable sound card inside my computer. Can I use the expansion slot (white) that I saw when I looked inside? If I can what sort of card would I need for a 5.1 speaker system? By the way, my PC is a 6 months old Packard-Bell 'ixtreme gold' running on a Santiago motherboard (P4 3.2GHz) Many Thanks |

| Hello munashe3, Welcome to CompuForums. I hope you can post here often in the future and add yourself to the member map This may seem simple, but have you tried a different set of speakers and leads? Sometimes it's the speakers that are fault. Try plugging them into another audio device, and seeing if you get both channels.

| Hi, Yes I tried different speakers and the problem persists. I tried plugging the speakers into the headphone socket and both speakers worked. I am looking to upgrade to a 5.1 speaker system. Do I need a sound card for that...and if I do, which one? Many Thanks |
