Default Integrated sound card

Hi,
I suddenly lost sound in one of my speaker channels the other day. When I checked, I found every obvious thing to be OK, so I thought I probably needed to change the sound card. But it seems there is no removable sound card inside my computer. Can I use the expansion slot (white) that I saw when I looked inside? If I can what sort of card would I need for a 5.1 speaker system? By the way, my PC is a 6 months old Packard-Bell 'ixtreme gold' running on a Santiago motherboard (P4 3.2GHz) Many Thanks

Hello munashe3, Welcome to CompuForums. I hope you can post here often in the future and add yourself to the member map

This may seem simple, but have you tried a different set of speakers and leads? Sometimes it's the speakers that are fault. Try plugging them into another audio device, and seeing if you get both channels.

Default Speaker sound

Hi,
Yes I tried different speakers and the problem persists. I tried plugging the speakers into the headphone socket and both speakers worked. I am looking to upgrade to a 5.1 speaker system. Do I need a sound card for that...and if I do, which one? Many Thanks
